Are your thoughts are your own?
I recall it vividly, the night my best friend called to tell me that he had witnessed two deaths, an emotional abuse, and a baby's birth, all in his lounge that evening. Talk about a rollercoaster. He gave a chilling account of his mother's and sister's sobbing. How did this all take place in one innocent family's house?
They had watched Grey's Anatomy.
Only recently have we been able to experience stories that are not our own life so vividly. Our eyes and ears completely fooled; fully charged experiences moving through us.
Our brain is struggling to tell what is real or scripted. We are becoming susceptible to false memories, shaping our beliefs, perspectives, preferences and behaviour, just like the real memories.
Neurons that fire together, wire together. We give more than just our time for the entertainment we consume.
What do you choose to reinforce or normalise in your mental operating system?
Are you eating a nutrient-rich, anti-inflammatory diet? Or are you hooked on MacDonald's?
Have you ever thought about the quality of your media diet?
It seems wise to think about the future version of ourselves that we would like to become and then choose media to move us towards that.
I don't know what the answer is, but I am sure that we are too careless.
