It is even worth mentioning that, even the neutral position as I am referring to it here, can be a small range of positions which are in the middle of the spines range - away from the extremes of flexion and extension. Can we sit with a spine that has balanced load on it - or do we constantly tend towards one extreme or the other?
If we think of the spine’s lack of structural integrity, it will not be possible to load it in a balanced and sustainable way without a contribution from the muscles, ie. without some activity from the core. We cannot expect to find a neutral-like position if we are completely switched off and unaware of our torso’s dynamics.
